You : You need an ultrasound as soon as possible to evaluate for the possibility of ectopic pregnancy. You still have the option to terminate the pregnancy but iud's almost never cause birth defects. Generally there is a risk of miscarriage with the iud. If we can remove it easily (strings present), the recommendation is to remove it after the diagnosis of pregnancy.
