Women who take anti-seizure medications carry a high risk for pregancies involving fetal malformations (birth defects), prenatal death, miscarriage and increased siezure activity. This is due to the fact that the medicines contain chemicals that cause birth defects in fetuses. Once your doctor is involved, he/she will determine if your anti-seizure medications can be tapered, set you up with prenatal care and supplements (such as folic acid) and determine yuor risk factors for increased seizure activity during pregancy. Check with your doc: Seizure medications may increase your risk of birth defects. You should review these meds with your OB to sure they are safe for you to take. They can also mess up your cycles and cause infertility.
