A : A period lasting more than the normal 5-7 days, and ongoing bleeding is a classic sign of the onset of menopause and a change in hormone levels. Many women who are experiencing the onset of menopause will start experiencing a long lasting period. It will be important that you let your doctor know as you are at risk for becoming anemic, dizzy and light headed, due to loss of blood. To remedy this, you may be placed on hormone therapy (some doctors will place you one the birth control pill) to help get your hormone levels under control.
