How are the symptoms of prostate cancer and prostatitis different?

Different: Prostate cancer generally does not have any symptoms at early stages. In later stages, there is bone pain, blood in the urine, and blockage of the kidneys. Prostatitis generally causes difficulty with urination such as urinary frequency, urinating at night, and burning with urination.

Infection v. Tumor: Prostatitis is an infection or inflammation and when present causes symptoms. Pain, pressure, decreased urine flow, and others. Prostate cancer usually causes no symptoms unless fairly advanced. Presenting with advanced prostate cancer is much less common today than 25 years ago. Prostate cancer is detected by a combination of blood test, prostate palpation, and ultimately biopsy.
