Laser : Laser liposuction is more invasive than traditional liposuction, despite marketing hype that implies otherwise. To begin with, both involve tiny incisions, infusion of numbing solution, and suction of fat with instruments called cannulas. Both types of lipo can be done with any type of anesthesia. When the laser is used, it is also inserted under the skin and laser energy applied, which can cause burns and scarring. So by definition it is a more invasive procedure with additional risks. In some cases there can be a slight increase in skin tightening but not enough to be clinically significant for most patients.

Mild tightening: The only advantage may be slight skin tightening with laser lipo but there is definitively greater risk of skin injury and burn with the laser liposuction.

Minimal benefits: Laser liposuction is conventional liposuction + the use of a laser under the skin. Laser is marketed to tighten the skin, but it probably does not improve the results over traditional liposuction and puts you at risk for getting burns. It is not less invasive and does not have a quicker recovery, this is just marketing. http://www.dassmd.com/liposuction/index.html.

Few: Traditional tumescent liposuction is very effective. The use of laser or ultrasound helps in areas that have been previously liposuctioned.
