Is 2% percent milk ok for my 1 year old? i have been transitioning to whole milk for my 1 year old. my pediatrician told me to start pitting less formula more milk untill ther bottle is all whole milk. when i give her the cows milk her stool gets loose. m

She : She may be lactose sensitive or intolerant. I would suggest trying lactaid milk, goats milk or soy and see if she is more comfortable. I just noticed that you posted this question 3 months ago so hopefully your pediatrician has suggested this already or you have tried it.

Transition time: Two percent milk does not provide enough cholesterol for brain development needed by your baby.If she is having loose stools with the whole milk ask your pediatrician to provide you with advanced type formulas that can be given to a one year old. These formulas contain adequate vitamins and minerals needed by a one year old.

2% vs. Whole: 2% is fine as long as the child is getting fat in his/her diet in other foods (most kids do). If the rest of the diet is lean protein, fruits and vegetables then whole milk would be a better choice for age 1 until 2. The issue is nerve cell development. The fat helps coat the nerves so they develop and work better. No more then 30% of the diet should be from fat though.
