You : You will likely receive occupational thereapy after your cast and hardware is removed. A great occupational therapist can really improve the long term outcome following even catastrophic hand injuries. The outcome is determined by a few things. Most notably, the integrity of the tendon repair is crucial (common sense, of course). Don't be discouraged. People have had amputations of one or several digits and gone on to a near complete recovery. Even when one finger is less functional, the remaining fingers may compensate. One issue here is that your middle finger is involved. This is a frequently injured digit simply because it is the longest. And, if its function is compromised, it may "get in the way". Your therapist will guide you, and with maximal effort, you will optimize your outcome. Good luck!
