There : There are certain genes common to lupus patients. It does not mean that lupus is a hereditaty disease where the chances of children from parents with lupus is really high , like other disease like huntington chorea for example. Yet there is a slight possibility but children whose parent have lupus should be tested only if they have symptoms that are suspiscious for it. Is very common in children to have a positive ana, one of the most comon test that lupus patients can have, but in the case of kids this is most of the time due to infections and not due to lupus. Women with lupus should not be advised against pregnancy based on this.

Genetic risk yes: Environmental vs genetic or both count . Genetics can be important but even identical twins can be different. One can get it and one might not . Thus the individual's environmental exposures such as infection, medications, chemicals can influence the development of lupus.
