Cold teething ring: Just give your child a chilled, not frozen teething ring. No orajel or topical anesthetics! also try to avoid oral pain medication. Have your child seen by a pedodontist when the first teeth erupt in order to get proper guidance, direction and advice for good dental health for now and the future.

Treat the cause: Pain is the signal to warn us about the serious underlying problem. Too often the tooth in pain was treated with a root canal to stop the pain, but the underlying cause was not removed and therefore ultimately resulting in tooth loss a few years later. Often the malocclusion is the cause for the nerve inflammation and pulpal necrosis. Treat the occlusion to protect the rest of the dentition.

Teething toys: I recommend first trying a teething toy then Tylenol (acetaminophen) liquid for infants usually for nighttime. One trick that may work for your baby is to take a large cucumber and peel it and make thick slices. Then core the seeds out and freeze the slices. It works great and is easy for them to hang on to. Use your best judgment and be careful to never put anything in a child's mouth that might make the choke.
