BUN and creatinine: Blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and a serum creatinine are used to measure how effectively your kidneys are screening out those waste products from your blood. They are a routine test almost universally done with blood chemistries.

BUN/Creatinine: Bun/blood urea nitrogen and creatinine are the basic kidney function tests. Have these tested on a fasting state- 10-12 hours fasting prior to the test to have an accurate result. Urine analysis may sometimes detect kidney function abnormality if it shows protein and casts. Diabetes and hypertension are risk factors for developing kidney disease. Be tested for these as well.
