It : It depends on what he ordered, since there is no standard definition of "routine blood work." in the past, it was commonplace to order a metabolic panel including kidney function, a complete blood count, and thyroid function as part of a standard health maintenance physical exam. These labs are no longer recommended in healthy people without any specific symptom, but many primary care physicians continue to do this. He may have also checked your cholesterol if this had not been done recently. It is important to check fasting cholesterol periodically (every 5 years or so) since elevated cholesterol is a treatable risk factor for heart disease. Next time, just ask what he is ordering and why. He should not be offended and should be able to explain to you why he is doing it. If he doesn't have a good reason, it probably isn't necessary.

Imbalance: Blood test will show if you have anemia, coagulopathy, abnormal blood sugar or electrolytes . Your doctor can obtain other information from your blood work , depends on what he ordered.
