Yes and maybe: There any many choices for medications like fosamax (alendronate), (alendronate) some doctors choose that one first because it's the cheapest. I'm not quite sure what you mean about a consult, if you have questions about treatment call that doctor that wants you to take the fosamax (alendronate).

Yes: If you are uncomfortable with the recommendation, you don't have to take the medication. Just see your doctor again to discuss your concerns. Often time you will feel better once you understand why he/she is doing what he/she is doing. There are many different drugs used to treat osteoporosis. You can discuss all of this with your doctor.

There are choices.: And your doctor has an obligation to discuss them with you, along with the risks/benefits of fosamax (alendronate).
