Yes: Not all cardiologists perform angioplasty and not all cardiologists who do perform angioplasty follow their patients over time. Varies Widely, No: Cardiologists focusing on procedures commonly depend on referrals for business. Referring docs often feel threatened by cardiologist staying involved & stop future referrals. Many cardiologists promote that basic medical care is not their job (complex & does not pay as well). Thus, unfortunately, the best interests of people with advanced disease can get lost in workings of the medical system.
