Re-infection: I'm assuming you mean the little orangish colored "thread"...That is the material that seals off the tooth from bacterial leakage. If you've removed it there is a pretty good chance that you will get another infection on that tooth. Anytime the root canal filling material is exposed for more than 24 hours, it's recommended to have the tooth retreated. See you dentist.

Don't do it!: Root canal fillings are meant to stay in the root. If you see some that is exposed you need to go see a dentist. To acually see the filling material your tooth would be significantly broken down. It may not be possible to save. If it is possible, and it really is the root canal filling material sticking out it will probably need to be redone. Good luck.
