Perhaps.: Bone loss is caused by an infection process and is preventable. To determine the correct treatment you must first have a thorough periodontal evaluation by your dentist. Once this is done, he/she can then recommend the best treatment for you. Depending on the extend of the disease, deep dental scaling is part of the treatment directions that is taken. Again, talk more with your dentist.

Yes: If you have tartar (calculus) under the gums along the roots then scaling and root planing is appropriate. If your pocket depths are 4-6mm deep it is the right course of action. In my office use adjunctive treatments to improve success. If your pocket depths are 7 or greater, surgery or laser micro surgery may be more appropriate.
