Complex question: Keloids and hypertrophic scars can be very uncomfortable and leave unsightly scars. There are many techniques to decrease the chance of keloid scarring but there is no fool proof way to avoid it. The type of suture used, steriods, pressure after surgery and even radiation therapy have been tried to lessen keloid.
