No: A dental abscess usually involves the apex or root of the tooth. It requires a dentist to drill through the tooth to drain the abscess and relieve the built up pressure. A root canal or dental extraction is then usually needed.

Will relieve pain: In the short term it will help with the pain. If you "pop" the abscess with something sterile it will relieve the pressure and a lot of the pain. Sometimes there is so much pressure that it will "pop" itself. You will have to see your dentist asap to fix the problem. I would not recommend doing this unless there is no available dentist.

No: You could experience more problems if you try to pop the abscess yourself. You should be evaluated by a dentist so the cause of the abscess can be identified and the proper treatment provided.

Abscess: Treating an infection (abscess) by yourself would not be a wise idea. You should use a skilled professional to treat your problem. Doing it yourself would not be treating the underlying cause, which should be done.
