It is a normal bone: A sesamoid is a normal bone that functions as an anchoring point for ligaments and a pulley of sort for tendons. There are 2 in each thumb and they may appear in the little finger and even the index. Thumbs can have sesamoid metacarpal arthritis or a stress fracture of a sesamoid.

Normal anatomy: Sesamoid bones are part of our normal anatomy. They can be commonly found in our thumbs, index finger and great toe. You should not seek treatment for this unless you have been diagnosed with a proble of the bone. Very rare but people have been known to fracture them.
