6 mo after due date: The short answer is 6 months after the due date. This is an average and variation of plus or minus several months is usually no cause for worry. Typically the lower front teeth are the first to show up. Obviously, each child is unique, and you should consult your dental provider for your specific case.

Varies Widely: Micro-premies live on two development calendars. Age from date of birth and age from when they would have been full term or normal 6 to 7 lbs birth weight. The normal range of first teeth emerging through the gums is from 6 to 14 months, with some earlier and some later.

Usual time 1st 1 3mo: If your preemie was very sick or very small, anticipate his or her teeth may be 2-6 months late coming in. They have enamel hypoplasia four times more often than term children. This means there is a lack of enamel (white coating) on the outside of the teeth. If your preemie has not yet developed any teeth by age one, please schedule your child an appt with a pedodontist.
