The range of normal : for first tooth eruption is 4-15 mos. The recommended first dental visit for all babies is at 1 year. Premature babies can have delayed primary tooth eruption & enamel defects, placing them at higher risk for cavities. Wipe out his mouth with a soft cloth after the last feed before nap or bedtime. Put him to bed drowsy, but awake, to learn to self-calm to sleep without a bottle or pacifier.

Probably OK: 1st baby tooth can erupt as late as 18 months. Many premature children have delayed milestones, but eventually catch up. In any event give your son the best possible 1st b'day present next month, schedule him to see a Pediatric Dental Specialist for a growth and development examination and so much more.
