Usually...: Usually aspiration of the fluid, and injection of a corticosteroid, a Prednisone like drug. However, the aspiration of fluid can aid in diagnosis, and prevent distension of the joint capsule. But you must find out the cause to determoine what if any systemic therapy is necessary!
