Not Necessarily: Blink rates will vary from person to person with most people blinking once approximately every 4 seconds. When reading, blink rate will decrease. Various conditions may cause more rapid eye blinking. The most common cause is tear film insufficiency or dry eye syndrome. Other causes include allergies, chemical or foreign body irritants, and involuntary spasm (blepharospasm), among others.
