Whenever i have a sore throat why do i always end up getting a chest infection?

Viral infection: Most sore throats are caused by respiratory viruses which cause "colds." cough and chest congestion usually follow the initial sore throat and runhy nose. You are more likely to develop a more severe or longer lasting cough if you smoke, or have asthma.
