Trigger finger: Trigger finger is caused by swelling in the flexor tendon of involved finger. The swollen tendon gets caught in a fascial sling ( tunnel) that it has to pass through. Treatment may be conservative with anti-inflammatories, cortisone injections to bathe the tendon, and short term splinting. If this does not work see an orthopedist with experience in treating the hand. Plastic surgeons also treat.

Hard to say: It would be very difficult to diagnose this without an examination so i will begin by saying that you might be best served by having this evaluated by a health care professional. By the way this is described, this could be anything including trigger finger. There can be tendon issues that cause what you are describing as well as problems in the joint itself.
