Cause of cough: Many issues are associated with cough of three week's duration. Try an expectorant such as Guaifenesin (mucinex). Any fever? Any shortness of breath? Go see your doctor. Either an antibiotic or a bronchodilator may be prescribed.

Bronchospasm?: This cough may be due to bronchospasm and, if so, bronchodilator and steroid inhalers would be prescribed. Other possible etiologies include gerd, post-nasal drip. All of these have different treatments and there could be a combination of these factors. So, see your doctor for diagnosis and treatment.
