Many things: Women experience emotion about the baby and curiosity about its health, appearance. They often want to block out others and focus on the precious bundle in their arms or under the warmer. Some develop the shivers. A few have bleeding which must be evaluated and stopped by the doctors. But most feel relief that they delivered and, above all, that their newborn is in the best condition possible.

Anything you want!: If everything has gone well with the birth, i would encourage you to ask the baby be placed on your chest/abdomen immediately for bonding. Babies are ultra alert in the first few minutes after birth, and it's a great time to get to know each other. Try to breast feed within minutes of birth as well if you are both doing fine, certainly within the first hour of birth. Placenta is also delivered.
