How long has it been: This depends on how long it has been in. If less than 3-4 weeks, cleansing the wound with a light occlusive dressing and mild steroids may help to minimize inflammation and promote healing. If longer than 4 weeks the scar is likely permanent and there is very little that can be done unless scars are hyperpigmented or can be excised to improve but not necessarily remove the scar or tract.
