Try Mederma: After a cut has healed, try appling an otc scar fading cream such as Mederma in order to fade the scar. You will likely need to use it regularly for a while. Also, it is useful to protect the scar site from the sun using sunscreen in order to minimize darkening of the scar.

Sunblock: Sunblock spf 30-40 for 6 mos after the wound. Silicone tap/gel probably helps, but is not a good idea in young children as they will ingest it! other products are unproven.
