The "quickest" way to reattach the retina is in the office with laser, freezing treatment, and/or gas injection (pneumatic retinopexy). Some detachments require surgery in the operating room via scleral buckle and/or vitrectomy.

Pneumatic Retinopexy: This is an in office procedure that is used for certain types of retinal detachments. Not everyone is a good candidate. It involves laser or cryopexy(freezing) treament to a retinal hole, and injection of a bubble of inert gas. The who process usually takes less than an hour and can be done in the the retina specialist's office.
