What is the quickest way to treat a retinal detachment?

See below: Retinal detachment is a condition that requires urgent surgical repair, especially if the central retina (macula) is not yet detached. The "quickest" way to reattach the retina is in the office with laser, freezing treatment, and/or gas injection (pneumatic retinopexy). Some detachments require surgery in the operating room via scleral buckle and/or vitrectomy.

Pneumatic Retinopexy: This is an in office procedure that is used for certain types of retinal detachments. Not everyone is a good candidate. It involves laser or cryopexy(freezing) treament to a retinal hole, and injection of a bubble of inert gas. The who process usually takes less than an hour and can be done in the the retina specialist's office.
