Retianl detachment: Not sure! cryo (freezing of the retina), laser, and a gas bubble can be used. These are all still surgical techniques.

It depends: Most retinal detachments (rhegmatogenous and tractional) require surgery in the operating room or surgery in the office to repair depending on the severity. The small minority of detachments (serous) that are due to inflammation or other rarer diseases may or may not be treated medically. Ask you retina specialist.
