Never normal: It's never normal to "see things". There are several possible explanations: medical disease, medicine or drug side-effect, brain injury, etc. The situation should be evaluated by your father's physician. Nighttime visual hallucinations are often have a medical cause. Usually there is effective treatment available to stop these misperceptions.
