Depends: Some docs like to place an eye patch after the surgery. But all the patients need an eye shield during bed time to prevent accidental rubbing of the eye the first 2 weeks after the surgery.

Not always: Depends in part on the details of the surgery (e.g. Did the surgeon give a retrobulbar block for anesthesia), whether or not a stitch was placed or needed to secure the wound. There is variability among surgeons on this advice. I perform temporal clear cornea surgery without a stitch >80% of the time, no retrobulbar block, and ask my patients to wear a clear eye shield at night for one week.

No: Clear corneal cataract surgery usually allows patients to not need a patch after surgery. Sometimes eyeMDs will put a patch on for the day after surgery. A shield is used though for the 1st 24hrs & then at bedtime for 1wk to protect the eye from any rubbing. More info: eyedoc2020@blogspot.com
