Overall condition: Stable fixation with a quality reduction of the fracture that enables the patient to resume activity, including weight-bearing are all important. Getting patients fixed, to minimize lung problems, bedsores, & blood clots are all important. Making sure that the patient is treated promptly, but not before being optimized for surgery is also important. The elderly often have little reserve.
