Eccymosis(Bruising): Eccymosis(bruising), also know as a positive mondor’s sign. Also in severe fractures one can see fracture blisters due to swelling(edema). Widening of the heel is often seen because the calcaneus in certain fractures will collapse and become wider. Of course a broke heel bone hurts, thus difficulty walking, or even putting pressure on it will be painful.

Pain and swelling: Signs of a fractured calcaneus are swelling and bruising around the heel. Symptoms include pain in the heel which is worse with weight bearing. Pain may prevent walking.
