What is the difference between a slipped capital femoral epiphysis and a groin sprain?

Bone vs muscle: A slipped capital femoral epiphysis (scfe) occurs when the growth plate becomes unstable and the femoral head slips off. This only occurs in a growing individual and requires surgical treatment to stabilize the hip. A groin strain is a muscle injury and typically resolves with time.

Age/site: Slipped capital femoral epiphysis usually occurs in overweight males between 7-11 where the top of the femur slides off it's growth plate (a soft new bone center where growth occurs). Groin sprain is in the muscle & can occur at any age,but most often adults who play weekend warriors and overdo it.
