Realization: During lucid dreaming, the dreamer becomes aware that s/he is dreaming and can often direct the dream. This can be very beneficial with disturbing dreams. A similar mechanism is involved in realizing and stepping back from disturbing thoughts. Such mindfulness is consistent with being able to realize that you are the thinker and being able to drop thoughts, relieve stress, and experience wellbeing.
