59% surveyed: A 2005 study indicated that 59% of doctors surveyed believed in an afterlife and 76% believed in god. Of course surveys are limited to those surveyed, and the actual prediction may be different depending on how representative of the general population of doctors the survey is. My belief is that maybe as high as 85% believe in an afterlife.

Irrelevant question: As a group, doctors are no more theologically (or politically) sophisticated than laypeople. Most doctors come to the end of their lives in medicine with the same religious (& political) beliefs as when they began. It doesn’t (or shouldn’t) affect their practice of medicine, since medical science, like all science, explicitly rejects all supernatural phenomena, including religion.
