OTC motrin, tylenol (acetaminophen): The best relief for wisdom tooth pain is to have them removed by a dentist or oral surgeon. Short term pain relief can be achieved with otc analgesics such as Ibuprofen and tylenol (acetaminophen). The dentist can prescribe a narcotic for short term pain relief if he or she thinks you need it.

Dentist decide: Wisdom tooth pain is best addressed by having them removed. Make a dental appointment to have them evaluated as the pain may have many different sources and the dentist can recommend the best treatment and medications for pain control. Until you get in, try taking otc ibuprofen.
