Why do ovarian cysts burst?

Bleeding: Most cysts don't burst actually. A corpus luteum bursts as it releases an egg, which is part of normal ovulation. The "ruptured cyst" is actually bleeding into the corpus luteum after the cyst naturally ruptures, which can be quite painful for many months. But other kinds of cysts basically never burst, and in fact the ovary can stretch quite huge without rupturing.
