Do i have to go to the oral surgeon that my dentist refers me to?

No, but...: You are free to seek service from any oral surgeon you choose. However, if you have dental insurance, the availability of benefits for those surgical services may be contingent on your choice of specialists. Certain hmo/dmo/capitation plans require that your specialty referral be pre-authorized, and that you go to a network specialist. Speak with your insurance administrator for more information.

No: You can see any oral surgeon you choose. Your only limiting factor may be your dental insurance if you desire to stay "in-network". If that is not a concern or if you don't have dental insurance seek out who you feel most comfortable with.

No: Go where you feel you would get the best care. Not a great idea to let your insurance company dictate what is best for you.

NO WAY: In this country, you are free to see whomever you choose. That being said, if your insurance dictates you see one of their 'providers', you must make that choice on your own. Bottom line: you shouldn't see anybody you don't feel confident and comfortable with. Most importantly, you should trust this doctor. It's always a good idea to get a second opinion from another oral surgeon.
