Can too much saline do harm?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Too much salt: Normal saline is basically salt water--with slightly high content of salt than your blood. If given via IV route, too much saline can cause volume overload, excess salt, leading to hypertension, edema, and/or possible heart failure etc.. It is often only given in hospital/nursing facility where the person is monitored regularly. Too much of anything is not good. Consult doc. Good luck.
