A member asked:

I am hepatitis b carriers, could i drink wine?

Unadvisable: Hep b can cause cirrhosis of the liver. Alcohol is metabolized by the liver so anything that metabolizes directly through the liver shoud be avoided. Tylenol (acetaminophen) is the same. So avoiding both will help preserve function. Additionally too much alcohol can cause cirrhosis too. So both can advance liver disease.

A glass of wine...: In a patient with HBV is not likely a toxic event. In the same vein, taking an occasional tylenol (acetaminophen) would not further damage with liver. It is not total abstinence that is necessary but moderation.
