See below: These shaking episodes are called myoclonic jerks and occur as we relax. In its simplest form, the myoclonus consists of a jerk followed by a relaxation. These are common in healthy people as they fall into sleep and are harmless. Hiccups are another form or harmless myoclonus.

Shake or jerk?: It is normal for healthy people to have a jerking or twitching of their muscles right before falling asleep. It is similar to "hiccups", where the muscles of the diaphragm and chest suddenly contract, also in healthy people.
