Bulimia: Bulimia is a serious psychiatric illness, and requires ongoing psychiatric treatment including psychotherapy. You especially need to learn your own individual triggers for relapse and set up contingency plans for those situations. Medications can help when depression and anxiety are involved. Abusing other substances may co-occur and complicate recovery. Healing is a journey, not an end.

Bad coping strategy: Bulimia is a maladaptive way of coping with conflicts and emotions. When you identify what you are using bulimia to cope with (ie, anxiety, fear, relationships) then you can find new ways of coping. You also must learn to respond to yourself in words instead of behavior. I've sucessfully treated people who have struggled with eating disorders for decades; there is hope.
