Depends on cause: Many patients with hydrocephalus are otherwise normal without walking problems. Some with spina bifida can not walk at all. In elderly with low pressure hydrocephalus, walking gets worse even without pressure. If this is new and progressive, a thorough neurological evaluation would be appropriate.

Yes it can: Hydrocephalus is a subtype of enlarged ventricles. Hydro can cause loss of coordination and walking difficulties. Hydro can also cause many other symptoms and signs. This can be a life threatening condition that requires treatment and often close monitoring by a brain surgeon. Please consult with your doctor or er immediately if you have walking problems or any changes in signs/symptoms.
