Condensing osteitis : Most commonly this would be a condensing osteitis and is a benign condition of sclerotic bone. Many other similar findings exist. Hopefully the dentist informed you of a course of action. Even if it is to only observe.

Abcess: It sounds like you may have an abcessed tooth. The tooth becomes infected and often times the infection will drain causing what appears to be a mass. Usually the tooth is accompanied by pain and sensitivity to chewing.
