Depends: Depends whether it is a deep or superficial burning, and whether you shortness of breath as well. Left chest discomfort means a heart problem should be ruled out--see your primary doctor. Depending on the exam (listening to chest/heart sounds), you may need an electrocardiogram (ekg) or other tests. If the burning is superficial and is the only symptom, this may be musculoskeletal strain.
