A member asked:

Why second generation histamine h1 antagonist are the drug of choice in treatment of chronic allergy? explain please!

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Best allergy medicin: Second generation antihistamines generally have fewer side effects (ie. Sedation and dryness), longer durations of action, and little tachyphlaxis (loose effectiveness with use) than older antihistamines. However for chronic nasal allergies, evidence based medicine places topical nasal steroid sprays as first line therapy ahead of antihistamines, oral or topical.
