Why should i not touch the white area surrounding my tooth extraction site with my tongue?

Healing: The white area surrounding your tooth extraction site may be the gum healing or the blood clot that formed after the extraction. Your tongue can dislodge the blood clot, leaving an open hole and potentially lead to a dry socket (infection of the bone).

Dry socket: You may cause a dry socket. If you recently had a tooth extracted and are having pain, you may have a dry socket. Call your dentist and have them evaluate the area. If it is a dry socket then medication will be packed in the area and will relieve the discomfort.
