Why is laughing gas used for a dental procedure?

As a calming agent: Laughing gas or nitrous oxide is used to help sedate and relax patients into going through any dental procedure. Local anesthetic must also be used and the gas will help people by altering their consciousness enough to have their work done. People will remain awake and alert but they become more accommodating for the procedure. It is used mostly because it is very safe.

Anxiety Control: Nitrous oxide is a really safe and effective inhalational anesthetic. It is very helpful in relaxing patients who have dental phobias. It has some analgesic properties as well. Overall it's a safe and effective way to deliver anxiety control. It's also has a very quick onset and is out of the body very quickly as well.
